Tetenal Gold Toner 1L. Tetenal Gold toner is an alternative to Selenium toner and can help archival stability of your black and white prints, although selenium is regarded as the best archival toner. Gold toner does not make the prints a gold colour - expect red-browns depending on paper.

Gold toning has been used since the dawn of photography as a permanising treatment, but as other permaning toners are significantly less expensive, today gold toning tends to be used more for its tonal effects. Supplied as a single working strength solution, the action is slow, because the price of gold dictates that there's hardly any in it! Capacity is also limited, maybe ten 9.5 x 12" prints, although this is influenced by print density; the heavier the print, the more it will exhaust the toner.

On an otherwise untoned print, gold toner will replace part of the metallic silver image with metallic gold, which produces a subtle blue colour. The intensity of this will depend on the silver particle size distribution in the print, and warm tone papers will usually tone better than cold tone. Length of time in the toner also controls image colour. On a previously sepia toned print, the brown image will will change to a spectacular red/brown image.
Supplied as a one litre working solution, which contains approximately 0.5g of gold. With care to avoid contamination this can be used repeatedly until exhausted.
